FNU (First Name Unknown) in I-485?

My Father's visitor visa has
First Name: FNU (First Name Unknown)
Surname: Given name in the Indian passport

We are in the process of filing I-130 and I-485. Is it ok to fill in "FNU" in the forms for first name field?

My (The petitioner) birth certificate indicates the name of Father as "Given Name in passport" and a Surname (Reddy). Will there be any issue in sponsoring my father for GC?

What is the first name of your father in his Indian Passport. Please put that in the first name field.

There should be no issue afterwards.

What did you fill for the visitor visa application form? Use the same information I guess.

I am very surprised that your father's passport does not have any given name. What does the birth certificate of your father say or your birth certificate should have your father's first name!!!!!!!!!!

Visitor Visa details:
Surname: Chetan
Given Name: FNU

Birth Certificate: Chetan
10th class certificate : Chetan

My (petitioner) birth certificate has Chetan Mehta. I dont recall the Visitor visa application form as it was filled by someone else and issue in India.


What should the I-485 form contain for
Family Name (Last Name):?
Given Name (First Name): ?
