I'm currently a LPR, but my wife (US citizen) and I are strongly considering moving to Europe for an extended period of time. I'm currently a green card holder, so I would have to either rely on getting back-to-back reentry permits, or eventually make the choice to give up my permanent residency.
On the other hand, I think there is always a chance that some time down the road we might decide that we do want to move back to the US together. I'm trying to understand what the process would be for getting another (presumably marriage-based) green card later down the road, when we're both living outside the US. Is there a way to apply for a green card even if my wife's domicile isn't in the US? Alternatively, if she moves back to the US herself, is it possible for her to come back to visit me regularly? Or for me to visit her?
I'm really worried about potentially not being able to see my wife for up to 1.5 years if we apply for a green card and she has to move back to the US. Does anyone have any experience with this?
