  • Family Green Card First preference to 2 preference

8 years ago I was sponsored for a family green card as unmarried son of an american citizen, so family based green card first preference.
as it took a long time to process, my situiation changed and I got married and even have a child. I recently got aproved, I was not expecting an answer any more to be honest so I bever really updated my file/application.
Is it possible to update it now and swith to F2 or is too late now nd this application is considered void?
    Thx for your help.

A married child of a US citizen is in the F3 category. The petition is not void, and your category automatically changed to F3 when you married, but NVC doesn't know about it. In the latest visa bulletin https://www.immihelp.com/visa-bulletin/
, visa number are currently available to F3 with priority dates from 13 years ago (or longer ago if born in Mexico or the Philippines). So you should notify them that you are married so they can update their records and wait a few more years until a visa number becomes available for you to start processing your case.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

Thank you for that clarification, now how do I inform/update my status to NVC?
