My husband's parents have twice applied for a visitor B-2 visa and been denied (retired, not enough proof going home). My husband is currently on a marriage based green card (I'm a citizen by birth), but could easily take his citizenship test and become a US citizen. I e-mailed an immigration attorney and he said that the only option he sees is having my in-laws petition for a green card and use that to come visit.
Is this possible? Other than having to start the green card application process over again is there any problem with multiple defaulting on a green card (you know it's going to happen if they're only coming to America once a year or so)? What other problems am I overlooking with this option? Would the US wait until they got all the way here, then take away their visa, and send them home without being able to visit us OR would they wait until they were going home and say "well, it looks like you're just making short visits here. do you want to surrender your green card now"? (i.e. are we going to end up paying for a plane ticket, having them sit 16 hours on a plane, only for them to be sent home without seeing us?)
Any other ideas for them to be able to come visit us here that I'm not seeing?
Thanks!
