Hi -
I hope some of you may have used or know of somebody who used the below option, & to see their experience: My father was born before 1970 & has a birth certificate that does not have his full name on it. I looked at the Indian Embassy website where they mention they issue duplicate birth certificates based on Indian national's passport - I also called the embassy & the person who answered confirmed they can issue a birth certificate, but can't provide affidavits or do a translation of an old certificate. Has anybody tried this option of obtaining a duplicate birth certificate from the Indian embassy in the US (available within 10 days as per the US embassy person I spoke to) & is this acceptable for I-485 considering it is stated below, on the State Dept website, that birth certificates before 1970 for Indian nationals are considered unavailable? Hence, was wondering if the US immigration authorities would disreagrd such birth certificate & I will have to find 2 people to do notarized affidavits for my Dad, for vouching for his birth-date?
