  • Form I864 sponsorship for mother

Hello everyone, I am new here and wanted to take your feedback on the sponsorship form I864 I am filing for my mother. I am currently unemployed and will be using my spouse income to show financial support in form i864. I wanted to ask below few questions.

    1) In line 21 - should I check this as applicable? and my husband should also complete form i864a? as I have included his income in the "part 6 sponsor employment and income"

    2) should I fill my individual income in 23b or ours total income as we filed married filing jointly in last three years?

    1. correct
    2. You should enter the number from the "total income" line of your tax return for those years, no matter how you filed. If you filed jointly, then it would be the "total income" number from your joint tax return (which would also mean that your spouse's I-864A would have the same "total income" number for those years).

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

        one last question, please

        1) my husband (joint sponsor) filing form i864a, has to sign two times in the form below (one as sponsor and one as household member)..this is kinda confusing to me.. apologies in advance..

First of all, your husband is not "joint sponsor". A joint sponsor is an unrelated person who fills out a second I-864. Your husband is just acting as your "household member".

You (the sponsor) complete Part 5 of I-864A, and your husband (your household member) completes Part 6.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

              newacct - Sir,

I got a message from NVC today that form i864a is not accepted as uploaded. I am not 100% sure what this means....is it I mistakenly uploaded i864a for my husband in the joint sponsor section (this section might be not applicable to my case) and form i864a needs to be uploaded along with i864?

or I have fill the form completely wrong? I have uploaded both forms i864 and i864a (my husband is a household member), and I believe i864a form is a must from my husband, since I am not an earning member of the family.

Below is a snippet of the messages received.

              scenario I think of:-

              1) I have uploaded form i864a in a separate section for joint sponsors- this section of the joint sponsor is not applicable in my case and i864a should be uploaded along with form i864
              2) or does my husband have to fill i864 and not i864a

I would really appreciate the support here as I am lost here and these things are really delaying the process for my family
