I am a US citizen and I am trying to apply for a GC for my mother. I have a peculiar situation and I am hoping that members here might be able to suggest a path forward.
I was born in Karaikal in 1976. I always believed that my birth was not registered. When I applied for my GC in 2008 I used affidavits from my relatives in-lieu of my birth certificate and did not have any problems.
I was told by the lawyer that in order to apply for my mother's GC I need to either produce a birth certificate or a non-availability of birth certificate (NABC) + 2 affidavits. So I sent my friend in Karaikal to get a NABC. After searching they found a birth certificate. But, it has some random name instead of my name. Also, it only has the first names of my father and mother. To make matters worse, my mother's name is also spelled incorrectly. They are refusing to correct the names and they are also refusing to issue a NABC saying that a record of birth is available. I am at my wits end and don't know how to proceed from here. Any suggestions or help is kindly welcome.
