Hello, everyone. I recently got an email from USIC to schedule my parent's National Visa Center interview as we decided to go with CP. My parents are still wondering whether they want to go with GC which is a totally different topic. Nonetheless, I wanted some clarification about life after GC.
- Can my parents maintain GC status w/o applying for Citizenship (after 5 yrs)? I know the intent behind GC is to become Citizen, but if my parents visited the US every year would that be sufficient, and not worry about applying for Citizenship?
- Are my parents expected to visit the USA every year or every two years or whatever schedule (???) to maintain GC status? And how long do they need to stay in the USA during every visits?
- Once they become GC holders, are they expected to file USA tax returns?
- Once they become GC do they need to apply for SSN? And what about medicare or health coverage for senior citizens?
