  • Form I-864 for parent or I-864 A- I file tax jointly with my spouse

    Hello,

I just filed I-130 for my mom, and I am currently finishing I-485, and want to work on the affidavit of support now and then the Combo card later on. I will submit all in 1 packet.
I and my American spouse jointly file our taxes together. We are a family of 4 in the household now (including my mom that I am petitioning).
Is form I-864 the correct form I need to submit, or the form I-864A?

Any experience on this, where you petition for your parent and file taxes jointly with your spouse?
    Please please answer.

    TY!

You, the petitioner need to sign I-864. If your own individual income is insufficient, and adding your spouse's income will make it sufficient, then you and your spouse will need to sign I-864A, and your spouse's income will be included in your household income on your I-864. If your own individual income is sufficient, then your spouse does not need to sign I-864A, and your household income on your I-864 will consist of only your individual income.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

Thank you! That makes sense now.
