We are engaged a family-based green card process, sponsoring my in-laws to move to the US. They previously held greencards in the late '70s but gave them up as they never took up residency in the US. We have USCIS approval and are going through the state department questionnaire, which asks whether they have ever held a US visa. I imagine the answer must be yes since they had previously obtained green cards, but the only record they have of a visa is a passport stamp indicating I-551 admissability. I wonder how they should answer this question, and if they answer it in the affirmative, what we should select for visa type. They have no clear recollection of whether it was obtained via an employment-based or family-based application. Also if we answer in the afftermative should we just use the passport stamp date as the date the visa was granted?
