Minor child losing his green card

My son and I have won our Green Cards through the DV program. We live in Europe and go back to the US every 6 months in order to keep our Green Cards valid. We have no intention to settle in the US for now.
If I temporary go back to the US alone but my son doesn't and loses his Green Card for not actually living in the country, can he ever get it back? Can I sponsor him again?

I don't think you can sponsor your child unless you are a US Citizen (or he might have to wait for a visa to become available which could take years)
