Hi all,
This is my first post and I just want to briefly express how grateful I am for this helpful website. I hope that I can contribute to it as I learn myself, but I have a pressing matter that I am hoping someone kind kindly offer some advice on.
My wife and I are in the process of submitting an application for a family-based greencard (for her). She is an F-1 grad student at a university in Tennessee and I am now working in Georgia (I am a U.S. Citizen). To get to the point, we are not really sure what to do regarding our address. Both of our names are on the lease of an apartment in Tennessee, and we own a house in Georgia (but it is only financed in my name). I drive up there to be with her on weekends. She will be moving out of the apartment and into our house in about a month. After the summer is up, she will probably have to commute and stay in Tennessee for 2-3 days a week. We have not nailed down living arrangements for her during that time yet.
Is there anything preventing us from using our Georgia address for the greencard forms (as the current address)? I know we would probably need to submit an extra explanation of our specific situation, along with the current Tennessee address... but more importantly I am concerned if there is any law preventing an F-1 student from having an address outside of the state they are studying in? She has updated her address with the international studies department to an out-of-state address for summer and winter breaks before without problem or comment. Could this be extended to allow her to get a Georgia Driver's license? She currently has a Tennessee learner's permit.
I haven't been able to find anything online other than a brief statement in a UCLA international student handbook that says they can't update their address to an out-of-state address (which seems harsh to me, considering summer breaks).
Sorry for the longish post, but this issue is bugging us.
Thanks in advance!
