Green Card for my mother

I want to apply for green card for my mother. I would like to know advise on the following:
1. She is planning to visit US in June 2011 on her visa. Should I file once she is here or can I file now.
2. How much time it is taking these days (avg). I was thinking of extending her I-94 after 2-3 months of her arrival so that she can stay for about a year. But was wondering whether in 1 year all the steps usually gets completed
3. What are the general process after I file I130.

You can apply at any time.

You can send I-485 application along with I-130 if she is here. Otherwise, you can submit it later.

What I am trying to figure out is which one would be faster-
1. Applying I130 now and applying I485 once she comes in June..or Applying both together when she comes in June.
2. She will be coming on tourist visa (6 months stay)..and so I would have to extend her I94 depending on how long does it take.

1. Timings vary all the time. There is no way to know.
2. You don't have to extend her stay if you apply for her I-485 before her I-94 expires.
