  • Applying for immigrant visa for parents

I am planning on applying for family based visa for my parents. I am a naturalized citizen and my parents are currently living in India. My mother's passport is expiring in approx. 4 months. Couple of questions:

    1. Does it matter that my mother's passport is expiring in 4 months for the filing of the I-130 application?
    2. Can I file for consular processing for them in parallel with the I-130 application or does the consular processing need to be filed after the I-130 is approved?
    3. I understand I need to file separate applications for both of my parents. Do I need to mention my mother's name in my father's application and vice versa?

    Thanks,
    P

    1. No.
    2. There is nothing called filing a consular processing. That will happen automatically once I-130 is approved.
    3. Yes.
