  • parents gc - no birth or marriage cert

    hi,

i want to apply for my parents' (family based) gc, but they have neither birth nor marriage certificates. pl note: they have passports and have traveled to the US a few times.

what is our course of action? if affidavits can be submitted in lieu of these certificates, could you please advise on the format that is required?

    thanks in advance.

I am in the same boat as you and am looking for answers as well. Let me know if you get any responses.

I have looked through the documents on missing marriage certificate and birth certificates on immihelp, but am not sure how to proceed.

For proof of marriage, all we have is wedding photos. Is getting affidavit sufficient. Since we don't have the wedding invitation, the registrar's office is not willing to provide a certificate or letter stating the marriage was not registered.

For birth certificate, the best we have School Leaving Certificate and Passport. Has anybody been able to get a letter from Chennai about birth not being registered?

Immihelp or Mr. Khatri, any suggestions?

For my parents, i didnt have their marriage certificate, birth certificate.
For marriage, i got a letter from priest who conducted their marriage and 2 affidavits from close relatives of my parents and for birth, we got " record does not exist" from registrar office at Delhi and affidavit from my grandmothers since they are alive and affidavits from close relatives who were present at my parent's birth.

        Thanks ManishaK for your response.
Were those documents sufficient in successfully applying and getting GC for your parents?
Did you attach any secondary proof such as school leaving certificate or passport containing date of birth and/or spouse names?
Also, did you have to attach any covering letter explaining the process and/or reasons for the unavailability of marriage certificate / birth certificate?

Thanks in advance for your answers. They are very helpful.

No, I didnt attached any additional documents.
Just affidavits and if you can anything regarding birth from registrar office will be sufficient.
My mom got her Immigration Visa today, so i am very happy and for my father, we are working on PCC from Some countries where he have been in past.

Thanks for sharing your information. It is very helpful. I am trying to obtain similar affidavits from relatives and letter of non-availability from the registrar office / corporation. Keeping my fingers crossed.
