I-130 and duration of getting GC

Hi All,

Couple of months back my sister who is a US citizen applied for my I-130. I live in India and am over 21 years. I am curious to know, if i should be getting any acknowledgement from the INS that they received the I-130 petition?

Moreover, i would like to know what is the expected timeframe for getting the green card

It is good to apply! The soon, the better! Did your sister apply here in USA or what? If she applied here in USA, she should have a notice of receipt by now conforming that USCIS got your application. As brother or sister of US citizen (and age does not matter here), you are classified at the bottom line of beneficiaries. Depending of your native country, you may have between( a minimum of) 7 to 22 ( maximum) years of waiting in line before to get the visa number available to you before you can immigrate or adjust ( if you live in USA on legal status). Check also the visa bulletin on US State Department website to get an idea of how long it may take for you! Good luck!

Your wait could be around 11 years. Receipt of the application with PD can take a few months to a few years.
