Family based GC application

I am in U.S on L2 Visa.My sister who is a U.S citizen is going to apply for family based GC for me.As per the information I got from this forum,it will take 10-11 years to get the GC to be approved.I came to hear from someone that I can legally be in U.S during the GC processing period.

What will happen if my L2 expires during the GC processing period?

Please reply if anyone have an idea on this.

What you have heard is not true.

During those 11-12 years, you will have to maintain valid non-immigrant status on your own.

After your L2 expires, you can't stay in the U.S. unless you move to another status on your own and not through your sibling's green card petition.
