  • Joint Bank Account Needed?

    Hi All,

I have just got engaged with my fiancee and we may decide to move from the UK to the US in 2 years time -

We have not decided if we will get married within those 2 years yet - it will depend on various things as you would expect - however, would this influence what I would have to do to get a green card? (my fiancee is an American citizen but I am a UK citizen)

For instance, if we were to go across on a Fiancee Visa and get married over there, would we need to show we have a joint account or anything like that? We have heard varying rumours on this - We don't currently live at the same address but live near each other (just due to where we work and convenience at the moment) - would we need to show we are living together also?

    Many thanks for any support,

If you are not married yet, you don't need joint bank accounts.

Thanks for the reply - by that token then, if we were to get married before we moved to the USA, we would need a joint bank account?

Then it depends upon the kind of immigration benefit you are trying to apply for.

Hi again, can you point me in the right direction?

I'm looking for the best link for applying for a fiancee visa/greencard? - I have tried looking through Immigration Direct but they seem to charge for the service - is there a government website that I can get this through directly to apply?

          Thanks
