Hi All,
I came accross this forum and noticed a lot of helpful information from the members. I have a few marriage related GC questions that I am hoping the members with more information would be able to help me with.
I have been dating my fiance for almost 2 years and i just recently proposed to her. I am currently on an H1-B Visa and she is a US citizen. She is currently in college scheduled to graduate next summer. She currently lives with her parents because the University that she attends is close to her parents residence. I live and work about an hour drive away in another state so due to this we have been seeing each other on the weekends for the last year or so.
Our plans were originally to get married after she graduates over the summer, however due to deteriorating circumstances at my workplace, we are trying to maybe start the Green Card application process a little earlier so that I can leave my current workplace sooner. She has suggested that we could possibly have a courthouse marriage soon which will allow me to start the GC process and after she graduates we can have our regular wedding with all the guests.
The problem is that since the University that she attends is close to her parents house, she would not be able to fully move in with me until she graduates. She will only be able to spend the weekends with me at my residence and then live with her parents during the week when she has early morning classes. Would this be a problem in the GC process if she does not live with me due to school? What if i added her to my lease but she only lived 3 days a week with me until she graduates? Should I just state in the application that we currently don't live together due to her school?
Also does having a courthouse marriage raise any red flags during the GC process?
