  • GC for my Parents

    Hi all,

Long time and glad to be back at this forum.

My parents surrendered their GC back in 2000 or so. The consular officer could not believe they were surrendering their GC in the fist place and gave them a 10-Yr multiple-entry tourist visa.

Their life situations have changed and having a GC again would be a big help to them. So, I intend to file.

The process is a bit unknown to me but I recall filing I-130 and related forms. Can anyone shed additional light on this process?

We for one, are quite optimistic as to the outcomes - esp with a prior successful GC application and subsequent travel well within the bounds of the current Tourist visa.

Additional info - their 10 yr multiple entry tourist visa expires Apr 2012. Our strategy is to have that tourist visa reupped/renewed or have a new one granted and then begin the GC process. From my understanding of the process, once you file, declaring intent to live permanently in the US, the statement of not wanting to live permanently as part of the Tourist visa would be contradictory and self defeating on both fronts.

Do you concur? They are currently in the US on that well used tourist visa.

    Thanks
    Bernie
