  • Alternative payment methods for immigrant visa fee payment

A family based green card petition was filed around 10 years back by my uncle for which my mother was the primary beneficiary and me and my brother and my father are the dependents.

Now, they have asked us to pay a $404 fee per beneficiary. I don't have a bank account in a US financial institution. In the alternate modes of payment, they have listed cheques as an alternate payment. But, how do i send a $1600 of payments. I would like to hear from someone about their experience in paying the fees if they have used the alternate mode of payment.

You can ask your petitioner or anyone you trust who has a US bank account to pay for you. Then just agree on how you can pay them back. In my case i asked my brother who is in the US to pay for me first.

By the way what is your country and priority date ?

Alternative payment methods for immigrant visa fee payment

The petition was filed in 2001 and approved in 2010. I am from India and I have no idea of priority date. Can you tell me what a priority date is and why is it important? My green card category is F4.

The priority date (PD) is the date when USCIS received the petition. So your priority date is sometime in 2001. Your petitioner or the principal beneficiary (your mother) should know this. Also the PD is in the email (or snail mail) you are receiving from NVC. The importance is so that you will know if your PD is already current (due for processing).

          Priority date is current

Thanx very much for your reply. So, if my priority date is 2001, then, as per the latest visa bulltein my PD status should be current, correct if my category is F4?

No your pd is not yet current. For F4 they're processing those before Sept 8, 2000. You should find out the exact date. year 2001 has 365 days so you don't want to keep on guessing.

              PD is current

Thanx very much for the help mtouch...

I found out the PD of my petition. It is August 1999. So,, i guess my PD is current as of now...
They want me to send them the DS 230 and documents to the NVC. The problem is, i don;t know the procedure of getting police certificates. I want help from someone who got this certificate in india. I guess i will put this up as a separate thread.

Do you have any idea as to how much time it takes from me sending the documents to a interview being scheduled if priority date is current?

              Thank you...
