  • How long to become a temporary (2-year temp period) permanent resident after marriage

I am currently under H1-B in good status. My company is applying for a Green Card. PERM results have not arrived yet. I am afraid this green card will take a long time to arrive.

I have a 6-month American girlfriend that said she would marry me because she loves me and because she wants to help me out. I am a descent, educated person, with a stable job/career. I also plan to go to med school in the near future. Not having a green card will complicate everything.

    So my questions are simple:

    1) How long does it take to become a permanent resident after getting officially married? I understand it takes 2 years to get the unconditional green-card. I am talking about the initial one that you receive quickly after getting married. Is that a regular green card as any other one, right?

    2) I can do the marriage green card CONCURRENTLY with my company's job-based green card, right? Any problems about this?

    3) Do we need to throw a wedding party or living together and sharing the same bed is a good proof of being truthfully married?
