F1 - OPT to applying with husband for greencard

Hi,

I am on F1 visa now. Will be completing my doctoral degree soon. My husband is on H1 will be eligible to apply for green card in a year. Is it better for me to go on OPT and then file for green card with him or go on H4?

I am unsure how the green card process works if the spouse is already in US on a different visa and is already married. Most of the information is for change of marital status.

Will I have to wait and not work till the whole process is done? Can I change my visa status in the middle of the process?

It does not matter whether you are on F1 (OPT or not) or on H4 while your spouse applies for the green card and adds you as the dependent.

As for working, you can work while on OPT, but not while on H4.
