after entering USA

I entered recently on an immigrant visa.My wife, who stays here filed the petition.On my passport,E22 stamp was given and I was allowed for one year from entering USA.
My question is:
1)Am I authorised for taking up jobs in USA or I will have to wait till the plastic card is given to me?Also, how long it takes for th plastic card to arrive?
2)What is the methodology for renewal of my Green Card in my case?

Your explanation is a bit confusing. Is your wife a US citizen? What was the category of your immigrant visa?

Your Immigrant Visa works as a temporary Green Card/LPR for one year. You can read that at the bottom part of the Visa. (This Visa works as a temporary I-551.....). So you look for a job right away. The LPR card will be posted to you in 4 weeks. You can renew it in the future if you want but it is valid for 10 years.
