Give up immigrant Visa?

Something came up and we won't be able to leave to the US within a year or even longer.
My Visa application was approved and we were supposed to leave within a year.
How do I officially let the USCIS know about our situation and cancel the VISA and greencard? I don't just want to let it expire, that won't look good on our part.

You just let it expire. I don't see why it won't look good. It is not like they would feel bad why you didn't come to the US and they are missing you.
