  • I-130 Application + expired green card

My sister is applying for I-130 for my family and I. My case is slightly different since I had been to US before on an immigrant visa. My GC expired in 2005; that time my sister was not in the US. now she is ready to apply and is providing as much info as she can; will it help to expedite the process this time? will it help to get a renewal on an already expired Green card?

If anyone had a similar issue your feedback will be of help.

    thanks

If your Green Card expired in 2005. 8 years ago, a sibling petition for you will take at least 12 years (up to 23 years) to be eligible for a new visa.

      Hello Ray B,

Thanks for getting back. after my last post I pondered upon the returning resident thread and learned so much. can I be eligible for returning resident visa? anything that can shorten the waiting time as an option will be good to have. My sister is a citizen and is ready to apply for me in the new year.

      thanks

A returning resident visa, SB-1, would be applied for at the U.S. Embassy or Consular Post for your area (country) and will require proof that you were unable to return to the U.S. for reasons beyond your control.
