Green card renewal

Hi,

My mom has a green card which is due to expire in 2 months. She is currently in India and wants to renew her green card from there. She is unable to travel for a few months as she was sick and hospitalized for a couple of weeks. She is not fit to travel yet.

I believe that she will have to go to the US consulate to apply for an extension of her current status so she can at least enter US at a later date. Please confirm.

What documents does she need when she goes to the Consulate?
