  • AOS paperwork submitted, fee paid and DS-261 completed...next steps?

I submitted the AOS fee online and the DS-261 for my husband who I am petitioning for. My tracking of the AOS paperwork shows that the NVC received it on August 28th. Nothing has updated on the neac website and no further information has been given to us. A few questions:
How long can I expect before the AOS is processed and we can pay the visa fee and complete the DS-260?
How long can we expect for the whole process before my husband will have visa in hand to come over?
Also, we have a brand new baby and I want my husband to come over as soon as possible, is there an option for him to come to the U.S. while we are awaiting the processing and return to Australia for his interview and final approval?

Thanks so much for any info out there!

    Medical?

    Another question....
If my husband came over for a visit during the processing, could he complete his medical exam while he his here visiting in the U.S. or does that have to be done in his home country??

The immigrant medical exam must be done at the designated medical facility(ies) being used by the processing Consulate, i.e., in the same city.

If you had opted to process your husband in the U.S., by submitting an I-485 package, the NVC step and fees would have been avoided, and the medical exam could have been done in the U.S. But once the I-130 is being processed at the NVC, you probably risk getting your processing convoluted by having two procedures in motion at the same time (NVC and Adjustment in U.S.).
