  • Interview - Convictions

    Hi,

Almost through with the IV application, just collecting last bits for the civil documents needed for the NVC. After that has been processed it is onto the medical exam & interview.

I have a question regarding the interview. Ten years ago when I was a Juvenile I had to go to court to receive a referral order, I am submitting an updated police cert & a memorandum of conviction. It wasn't anything too serious, a moment of stupidity growing up led us walking down some train tracks (yes I know, stupid). But, we got convicted for property damage. I want to know how/if this will effect me in anyway during the interview process. Will it become a big deal? I have had a J1 & F1 visa since this conviction, I'm sure it will get brought up like last time but hoping it won't get in the way of me being getting the green light. Any advice or experience on this???

    Thanks James,

    Any Advice?

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

I'm almost certain that it will at least get brought up in the interview. I can't see them denying my approval for a green card for something so small that happened as a juvenile 10 years ago. Nothing I can do about it now anyway. I've been a good boy since it happened, got 2 degrees and I've been accepted for 2 different visa's in the mean time as well. Just wanted to see what other people thought about it before I get my interview.

      Hey James,

Did they make a fuss about this at your interview? Did you have to provide any specific documentation other than the police certificate?

My husband is in a slightly similar situation... something as stupid as him being given a reprimand by the police when he was 13, did not result in a conviction, essentially just a slap on the wrist by the police, but we are expecting it to at least be brought up somewhere along this visa process. Hopefully it does not delay anything...

Nothing to worry about in my opinion. I had a couple of reprimands on my police cert, all when I was classed as a juvenile. I went to court for one of them so I did supply the NVC with a memorandum of conviction just in case. But, they didn't ask me about any of them on the day. I think, from what I've heard, they are mostly interested in convictions that are recent or have been a result from drugs/alcohol etc. You might be asked about those.

Nothing to worry about in the interview.
