  • Help filling out i-864

    Hello & thanks for all the help offered on these forum.

    If anyone has some spare time we'd love some input from you good people on a few questions regarding the i-864.

    My wife is currently unemployed & staying(as a tourist) with me in Sweden so we've opted to go with a co-sponsor - her mother.

    1. We understand that she has to fill out the i-864 as a joint sponsor but will she also have to fill out the i-864a or is that only if she doesn't make enough money on her own and would have to "add" her husbands income?

    2. Under "Sponsors household size", what do we put..? Let me ellaborate;
    As far as records and what not go my wife is still (on paper) living with her mother even thoug she's staying here and we'll be moving straight into our own apartment whenever we go back to the states. Do we put down her mothers household size as it stands on paper including me and all of her mothers dependants(4), just me and my wife(2) or me and my wife + her mother(3)? I hope it didnt get too confusing.

    3. My wife has never held a "real" job, only a handful of shorter, summer-type jobs which she never filed taxes for since she didn't make enough money in total per year(although taxes were being taken out from the paychecks, it wasn't illegal or anything). What do we put at "unemployed since.."?

    We could simply put the date she left the last employment but we're wondering if that is going to mess with this part: "My total income (adjusted gross income on IRS Form 1040EZ) as reported on my Federal tax returns for the most recent 3 years was" since we'll have it down as "not applicable"

    IF MOM HAS PROOF OF HER OWN INCOME WHICH MEETS THE SPONSORSHIP REQUIREMENTS FOR HER OWN HOUSEHOLD AND YOUR WIFE, SHE CAN AVOID SHOWING HER HUSBAND'S INCOME ON AN I-864A.

    THE MOTHER'S HOUSEHOLD, FOR SPONSORSHIP CALCULATION, SHOULD ONLY INCLUDE MOM, HUSBAND AND CHILDREN ON HER TAX RETURN WHO ARE STILL LIVING IN HER HOME.

    NO. JUST PUT THE DATE SHE LAST TERMINATED EMPLOYMENT.

    USE AN I-864, INSTEAD, AND SHOW 'TOTAL' INCOME FROM 2013 TAX RETURN ONLY.
