It is true that getting through the NVC step can be very slow and very challenging. Despite the reports, however, it is not "mistakes" so much as "exceptions" on the I-864 which cause requests for resubmittals. The exceptions seem to be caused by the "bar-coded" machine checking of entries that are not exactly the same as requested on the instructions, e.g., gross income not matching line 22 by a few dollars, etc.

And, yes, the NVC journey can easily exceed 4 months.

Again, thank you for all your help, Ray.

I've been reading some disheartening posts that the NVC is very slow right now and that they often find mistakes on the i864 that can seriously prolong the time at NVC. Is this entirely true? Is it normal for the NVC processing to take longer than 4 months?

Assuming they do not request any additional evidence or ask for a re submission of forms, how long is the average timeframe?

What I've seen and read from posters is about 3+ months.

          Hi Ray,

When submitting tax docs, is it okay to just submit form 1040, or should you also submit W-2?

When submitting a sponsorship package, you must include the entire Federal income tax return and W2 or 1099 form copies. But if you use IRS transcripts, you do not have to include W2 copies.

Length of petition good from --?

I started the petition officially on the 20th of November and I believe I have a full year to get my papers in by then. What about the NVC stage? What happens if I have not heard back from the NVC, I don't have an interview date yet, and a full year is fast approaching?

If you submitted your petition in November, you probably won't get a petition approval before March or April, after which you should be hearing from the NVC.

Thanks Ray. When would be the deadline of submitting the NVC documents -- would that be within the 1-year period or should I account for the 2-4 months that it takes the NVC to process the paperwork?

Once you get the NVC welcome letter, you must respond within a year, or the case will be shelved.

Cheers, so it is possible then, for the Interview to be scheduled outside the 1-year wait (in the case my documents are submitted near the end of the 1-year term) ?
