After receiving green card/permission to live in U.S.

I'm wondering about the time we can stay in the current country I`m living once we get the OK to live in the US.

I'm living and working in Japan and my wife and I are planning on moving to the U.S.
I plan to look for a job in the US from Japan a few months after we send out the paperwork for my wife, but if we get the approval and green card sooner than expected and I still haven`t found a job in the U.S., how long are we allowed to stay in Japan? Can we just leave whenever we want or does the green card have a limit?

The spousal visa has to be used within 6 months of issue or before six months form medical exam, whichever is sooner.

Your wife won't get the Green Card until about a month after she arrives in the U.S. on a spousal immigrant visa.
