Hello, kinda confuse , my USC husband file I-130 for my 4 years old son who lives in Africa and we just got the form I-797C notice of action but no Alien number. Just a receipt no with LIN , just wondering if it right coz I was hoping to get a Alien number so I can be tracking it .... Please I need to know if it's normal or something else is wrong ? Thanks all replies welcome .

So you received just a receipt with no LIN -
An "A" number does not come with an I-797 receipt Notice of Action for an immigrant visa. Your LIN number is your tracking number. The LIN numbers, however, are notoriously absent from the USCIS tracking application, though they are still valid numbers.

RayB, thanks for the reply , how do I track my sons case cos I'll be leaving for Africa and I'll be gone for 2 months I was hoping the Alien no will help but since there's no don't know what to do , there is strange to me just don't want to miss out on anything while am gone cos no one is around to check the mail . What should I expect ?Comment

Have you visited the USCIS website lately? There are two tracking options:
1. https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do
2. https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/showSplash.do to create a case management account.
