  • Marrying US Citizen outside of USA

Hi, my fiancee and I currently living/working in Istanbul/Turkey. We want to move back to States and right now we are confused which visa type we should apply, we are planning to marry here in Turkey (summer 2015).

I checked K-1 visa program, I am an engineer and I need to have a work permit when I enter US so that I can support our family. Is it better to apply K-1 visa and then get a temp work permit OR file permanent residency application for GreenCard (I-130) and wait for process to be finished before going to US ?

If we apply I-130, as far as I understood my fiancee have to fill this application in USA. I checked the possibility of applying I-130 outside of US, and I found below link which states there are certain centers (consulate offices) around world which you can apply I-130 form without going to US. Is this true ?

    Thank you for your answer

    You have two choices:

    1. So long as you are not married, your fiance can file the I-129F for a fiancee visa now, by submitting it to USCIS in the States (even though he is in Turkey now).

    2. If you marry in Turkey, your fiancee can file the I-130, mailed to the States.

The fiancee procedure will probably be about 3 months faster.
