  • Which option is the best for Green Card holder and Fiance abroad?

    Hi everyone,

I am currently a Green card holder, and will expect my naturalization date on Oct 22nd 2016. I have my fiance abroad and would like to sponsor him to come to the United State. FYI, we have been with each other for 5 years and 4 months now, so we would like to ask everyone for their opinions on which options should we consider, in order to minimize the waiting time...

Option A would be: getting marry asap, then file F2A petition. Then, wait for the naturalization (which I assume will take at least 1yr 10 months from now. Please correct me if I'm wrong). After getting my citizenship, I'll then upgrade F2A petition to immediate relative.

Question: In your experience, how long do I have to wait after upgrading my petition to get the visa? And what are the pros and cons of this? Do you have any tip?

From a few source I read online, some lawyer actually recommend coordinating 2 applications to minimize the waiting time. But I'm not sure about the detail of the process....

Option B would be: wait until I have gotten my citizenship, then file the Fiance visa, which will take about 6 - 8 months (based on friend's experience) after my citizenship. The total expected waiting time would then be 2yr 4 months - 2 years 6 months. (could be longer, If my citizenship takes longer)

Again, I really appreciate your help on this...
