Mumbai - Reschedule IV interview date

I am a USC. I applied for a IR5 immigrant visa for my parents in Feb 2014. After the petition was approved, NVC asked for some documents and that was going back and forth until earlier this year. In the meanwhile, my parents decided to visit us in the summer since they already have a valid tourist visa. So they are with us from May through September. Now, as luck would have it, we received an email from the NVC informing us that their IV interview date has been scheduled in July. Since there are some prerequisites (e.g. VAC appointment for fingerprints, medical exam appointment) before they can appear for the interview, they would have to return to Mumbai at least a couple of weeks prior to the interview date.

Instead, I was wondering if anyone has sucessfully rescheduled the interview date with the Mumbai consulate. The FAQ says to contact them via email and they will respond with further instructions. What exactly is the process and how quickly do they respond? Can we get the interview date pushed back by 1-2 months?

You should go to http://www.ustraveldocs.com/in, create a profile, and log a query using the "SEnd Feedback" link to the left. They will respond fairly quickly - usually a day or two at most. You should also ask thme to help you wiht the detailed stepwise process to follow to set up interviews for dates of your choice. You can definitely set up fingerprint / interview appointments for dates of your choice. The key thing is to verify what timeframe you have available within which the entire process must be completed. Normally it is a year (from the notification date by NVC) but that could vary based on your visa category or specific case circumstances. Once you know the max timeframe available, you can go and set up the fingerprint/interview dates based on your convenience. Note that you should keep about 2 weeks max between the medical appointment (fix that in turn beforehand with Rele Clinic) and the fingerprint date. Anything more, and it eats into the validity period of the visa itself (which will be upto the validity of your med results - max of 6 months).
