Time Restrictions for Submitting Documentation?

I'm sponsoring my husband for an IR-1 visa, and he has now received a case number. As we understand, the next step is to gather all the documentation and then click the 'readiness' button to indicate that we're ready to schedule the medical exam and move forward with interview. Is there any deadline/time restriction on this stage - after being assigned the case number and before saying that we're ready? Can we take as long as we need/want at this point in the process? Any information appreciated - can't find anything on the U.S. Embassy/London website.

NVC requires a person to respond within a year after the file has opened. So you can take couple of months to gather all documents...
