  • Delaying immigration to USA after GC interview

I am USA citizen. My wife got the greencard after consular processing based on Marriage. We have been married for 18 months.

My wife´s dad has critical health condition and there is no one else besides her mom to take care of her dad. She is suppose to enter USA on Nov 15th (6 months after the interview). We would like to postpone the entry for 1 year more.

    - Whats the best way to go about doing this? Do I need to contact consulate in India or US immigration?
    - Whats the exact process? Any official link will help...

It would be a much smarter plan to have your wife come to the U.S. before her spousal visa expires, get her I-551 stamp or Green Card, perhaps a Reentry Permit to stay outside the U.S. a year or more, than to delay using her spousal visa until after it expires.

Well, travel expenses back and forth, staying in usa for 30 to 60 until she gets re-entry permit is waste of money. Since I am currently in India. Staying 30 to 60 days and getting set up there is not easy.

Has anyone tried delaying the immigration visa stamping or entry to usa after the green card interview?

Yes, an immigrant visa expiration can be extended.
