  • How to go about for getting green card directly?

Hello, I'm a citizen of Sweden studying computing at the ETH Zurich in Switzerland, currently at the Bachelor level but will go for the Master+possibly PhD. After finishing my studies, I am considering immigrating to the US to contribute to the field, initially by working for an important company, and in longer term by starting up a business of my own. Now, I'm curious about the possibility of obtaining permanent residence directly (through an E21 or maybe E32 visa), rather than first "immigrating" on an H1B visa.

Firstly, can I enter on the VWP (admission class WB) if asked to appear for a job interview? If so, can I safely mark no on the ESTA question whether I'm seeking for a Job (I would be, but marking yes would cause the ESTA to be rejected)? To be exact, is it safe to mark no, enter in WB class, attend the interview, and then depart to start the Immigrant visa process?

Secondly, how common is it for computing companies to be willing to Sponsor an Immigrant visa rather than an H1B? E21 visas are currently available whereas E32:s have a backlog of 3 months...will probably Change in the next years but that's the Status quo.

EB2 and EB3 process takes many years, not just 3 months.

It is extremely unlikely that some employer would sponsor your green card without you first actually working for them, usually on H1B visa.

I was referring to the visa backlog, the "empty waiting time" for a visa to become available. Had a check at the visa Bulletin (it said C for EB2 and 1OCT15 for EB3). For all the steps, I know it takes much longer.

So in other words, People applying for employment-based Immigrant visas are almost always People who have been nonimmigrants but left the Country for the processing?

People who are already in the US on non-immigrant visa would file for Adjustment of Status I-485.
