Hi everyone,
I'm having trouble finding answers to this on the internet. My girlfriend and I want to get married, but we're scared what it'll do to her F1 since she has one semester left in school and might have to leave the country for a job interview or a conference. In the meantime, we can't apply for a Green Card or anything because I'll be leaving for Europe in a couple of months for a job, and the intent is for her to move in with me if she can't find a job (likely, because the PhD job market is bad and it's worse for non-us citizens). It seems like we can apply for a green card while we're abroad, but she won't be able to move in with me if we're not married, and we'd prefer not to postpone marriage past the 2 years minimum that I'll be outside the US.
So my question is as follows. It seems like people only have problems with the F1 visa if they're married because it's "hard to prove" that they don't intend to immigrate upon returning to the US. What if your spouse is in a different country and simply -can't- help you immigrate? Do they take that into consideration? I.e., could we safely get married and have no problems with her F1 visa because of our very specific circumstances?
Thanks for listening
P.S. Does anybody know of an easy way to get a birth certificate from Beijing without actually going to Beijing?
