They have to get a visa number for her, so while you can include her, she won't get the immigrant visa at the same time. It would be a follow-to-join case.
Act as fast as possible to get your spouse's papers in. It is quite possible that they can issue her/him the same case number that they did for yours. In this case, she/he would be called on the same day as your interview and you would be granted your visa approvals together. This is exactly what happend to me, and my wife was called on the same day as I was. I was fortunate enough to bring her back to the US with me- she did not have to wait a day extra. Hope this helps!
Could you please elaborate the procedure for
getting the same case number? I am in a similar situation except that I need to add my new baby, who is born here is Australia.
