  • Question on adoption

My wife and I went through consular processing and our Visa interview is scheduled at Chennai in April. The interview letter has our names on it. We adopted a baby girl a few months ago. I had spoken to my attorney more than a year ago when we were contemplating adoption, and she was quite categorical in saying there would be no problems with the child's immigration. Now she is being less sure, essentially saying that we are at the mercy of the consular officer on this. Any thoughts, inputs, experiences in this regard would be welcome. TIA.

    Adopting a Baby Girl

Even me and my wife are planning to adopt a baby girl. We would like to know any specific things that needs to be taken care of. I am on H1 visa in US and also plan to have my extended H1B stamped in the same interview.
I would really be thankful if you can give your inputs on same.

    Thanks.

Your lawyer is right. My wife and I adopted a baby girl, and the consular officer denied her visa. We tried Congressmen, Senators, and even a letter to the President with no positive results. The consular officer is GOD. They can do virtually whatever they want. They have no accountability, and no once can overrule their decision outside of an appeal, which might take 3 years to get through the constipated US Immigration System. Because of one consular officer who wanted to be an ***, my wife and I cannot bring our adopted child to the US. Isn't that what makes American great????? Good luck, but you better bring a lawyer to your visa interview.

VOs follow the rules as required by law. The international adoption is a huge deal for even American citizens involving tons of paperwork and money. Immigrants wanting to adopt makes it even more difficult and it is almost impossible to bring the adopted child AFAIK.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.
