HELP: Police cert. for CP in Montreal.

I hold a Canadian passport and have applied for CP in Montreal. I was born in India and lived there for a long time. I read that Police certificates are NOT needed for Indian nationals doing CP in India. What happens in my case?. Do I have to obtain a Police certificate as I will be doing the CP in Montreal. Does my wife who holds an Indian Passport need to obtain a polce certificate from India. Any help is greatly appreciated. My company attorney says it is not needed. Thanks
