Police clearance

Where does one need to get the police clearance that is required in CP, within USA or the native country? What are they looking for? And how long does the clearance normally take?

Depends which country you are applying to appear for IV interview. Say you are an Indian and applying in India, you don't need to get the police certificate from Indian authority. If you are currently staying the US, you don't need any police certificate from US. If you or your wife or both have stayed in a country/s other than USA/India for 6 months or more, you need to get a certificate/s from that country.

Thanks Rockstar for the clarification...

1. I went to school in Canada a loooong while ago, so should I get one from the (locality?) police? Who should I be talking to to grt this certificate?

2. Also the list in the Immihelp pages does not say that India is an exempt country where Police Certificates are not avaialable, meaning that we need to get them. Appreciate if you or anyone can further clarify why we need not get a PC in India.
