Yes, both should have their spouse name in the passport. If you have marriage certificate copy you can get it in Indian Consulate.

Thanks for reply. I have marriage certifcate so can I get it amended in consulate before interview? They will do it on the same day of interview or do I have to go there one day before.

You need to get it added

either at the Indian Consulate in USA or in Regional PAssport Office in India where your passport is issued. It's same day service, I beleive

                Is it mandatory

Is this mandatory? my interview is in couple of weeks, and my passport doesn't have this. Will this be an issue?

                Thanks

                  Re: Is it mandatory

My marriage is not registered. I am going to be supplying affidavits instead. How can I get my spouse name added in the passport ? Will the indian consulate accept the affidavit ? Problem is that my wife is in india and i'm in the US and she doesn't have a passport currently. Thanks.

Re: How long does it takes ?

                    1) How long the Indian consulate here takes for adding the spouse name in the passport ?
                    2) Is same day service available if we go in person ?

                    Appreciate any experienced input.
