Is the courier(blue dart) part mentioned compulsory?

We have our interview at Chennai in april and we are booking our tickets to India and would like to know if the courier part mentioend in some postings is compulsory or can we go in the evening and collect the packet(cover) personally the same day??? Based on this we need to get our return date finalized!!!
