Is the I551 stamp on the passport enough to apply for a SSN?
Could somebody who has applied for SSN after a CP please let me know what the SSN asks for?

    Thanks and Regards

    RE: Applying for SSN

I-551 stamp on the passport should be enough. Plus, you should take your old SSN card. They will take the old SSN card with them and send you a new one in 1 or 2 weeks. I got it in 1 week for self and the family also.

    Good luck

For some reason, my SSN card (which I got when I was on student visa) does not say "Authorized to work with INS approval".

Basically, it does not have any restriction written on it. Do I still need to apply for a new SSN card?

        RE: SSN

I guess so, not a legal advice. But, it is required for the SSN guys to know about your change of status. I may be wrong. Maybe, others can chip in here.

          Applying for SSN

Wait for the plastic card. Then Do it.

I tried with passport and stamp and they sent me a leeter 8 weeks later saying the INS had never heard of me.

Then the plastic arrived, I went back and behold my new details were on their computer. The new card arrived 10 days later.

Why do we need a new SSN Card

I already have an SSN Card from the last 5 years and I also have my GC - plastic card now. Is it mandatory to get a new ssn card?
            Thanks

Why do we need a new SSN Card

If you don't the SSA will report the fact that you are working or changing jobs to the INS who may (or may not) realise you are allowed to do so (the right hand of the INS doesn't always knlow what the left is up to).

You could wind up with some beuracratic hassles. If you get the new card (or at least notify Social Security that you have a GC) you avoid any potential problems.

                Got SSN updated

Thanks guys. I had ignored the fact of updating the SSN. It was cool deal, they just saw my Card and passport and took my SSN Card.
7-10 days is the time they gave for the arrival of the new one.
                This was in Texas.
