  • Dealing with attorney firms

    Folks,

Just wanted to know if your experiences are as bad as mine:

My Packet 3 reached attorney on Jan 16th.Since I'd all the documents ready, I sent them along with completed forms DS230-PART1,2, etc., as soon I knew they received it.

Even though I presented them with all the documents, filled forms and made sure there is nothing for them to do, the attorney firm hasn't filed my case as of today(Feb 21).

I called my attorney's assistant three times during this period to enquire the status, only to hear "we have been very busy lately and will review your case this week" almost identical replies everytime I called them.

Even more frustrating was when my HR person emailed me today saying "Don't call the attorney firm since they are billing us for telephone calls as consulting time."

Is GC really worth this begging?

    Not Legal Advice:

Just mail packet III yourself and deal with the NVC/Consulate directly. The two forms (DS230) are fairly sraitforward and simple.

When I made the decision to CP instead of Adjust Status the company attorney turned out to be of little help. I got a required document list that diddn't match the required docs on Packet IV and had to scramble on the day before the interview to aquire the proof of assets (which I needed since I had a dependent).

If you have no dependents it couldn't be easier. If you do it is still fairly straightforward though an Affidavit Of Support (if required) can be a little tricky. But then you can always consult a lawyer on your own (may cost a couple of hundred dollars).

Since your I-140 is now approved (and the consulate will have it) you no longer require any documents your lawyer may have. The PC's etc need to be aquired by you and not them.
