  • marriage before CP..

Guys please help me with this one..
I am planning on getting married in May/2002.. I think
I will be getting my interview date in April/2002 (I have
sent my Pkt -3 in begining of feb)..

I was thinking of getting a Civil Wedding (Register marriage)
before the CP interview, so that I will have my marriage
certificate.. I am then planning on submitting my
wife's pkt-3 during my interview.. So that here case
can be entered & she will get interview later..

Question is are there any risks in this?? Do they ask
for invitation letter? or wedding photo-graphs when
I am submitting her docs during my interview??

I think some guys have done this.. Please give some
inputs.. I am thinking how to go about this issue..

        Re: marriage before CP.

        Not legal advice:

As far as I am aware if you have a spouse you can get married after the interview but you will need the spouses Packet III submitted, Visa Number requested and interview date set BEFORE you enter the US.

In other words if you enter the US before the spouse gets Packet IV you could have a problem. Though things can vary from consulate to consulate on this matter. It pays to check up with consulate.

Marriage after CP interview - Successful episode

This is the information/experience that I have.

I had my interview at Chennai Consulate on 21st Dec. I got my medicals done on 6-7 of Dec. I had the appointment with doctor RajKumar. A nice person/doctor. I was not yet married. I was looking hard, the hunt was on. My CP interview went on like a breeze. No questions asked. Infact I was asking questions regarding what I should submit for my wife to be considered as a "Following-to-join" candidate. I had met my wife on 15th December but I was a unnecessarily tensed about my interview on 21st. So we scheduled the wedding after the interview. It was no point hurrying things and submitting the docs on my day of interview. The wedding was on 24th December 2001. Then I got the marriage registered on 26th Dec with the local sub-registrar office. We Fed-Ex ed the following the same day to the consulate:

1.A covering letter listing about my case number etc...and the docs enclosed
2.OF-230 Part I of my wife
            3.Her Birth Certificate
4.My IV Visa copy that I obtained after my interview
            5.Marriage Certificate Copy
6.10th Marks sheet as her Birth Certificate was in native tongue
7.Passport copy (first couple of pages)

It reached the consulate on 28th December. By then I had done enough research about this scenario and it was safe enough to get back into the US. But I just stayed on expecting the date to be in Jan 2002. This was because the lady at the counter had said that the process would take about 1 month. I did not believe her but it was a ray of hope that she created. So I stayed back till Jan 15th. I had also emailed the Chennai consualte about the interview date. They told me that it will be in March 2002.

So I came back into the US alone. The POE was no probs at all. It was at LA and it took just 15 min to get my passport stamped.

I called up the consulate on 10th Feb and they told me that the interview date is on 22nd March.

I have all the documents that are required for her to present her case at the interview. Infact I met the lady in question of the case who was exactly in a similar situation as my wife would be sometime soon. Unfortunately they asked her to come back with more wedding picture (10 intotal), email correspondances with her husband and phone bills to proove that her husband called frequently (ridiculous). I am basically equiping my wife with all these.

She had to get 2 PCC's, one from the passport office and one from the local police. The first one takes 20 days and the passport is held by them. Actually we have close to 3 months from the date of submission of your wife's application to the interview date. So you have enough time to collect all these.

I will keep you guys posted on the proceedings.

            Hope this helps.

                PCC Question

Regarding the PCC, it is mentioned in every PCC discussions that are going on immihelp.com . It was also on the local news papers in India about this requirement. This pertains to only if the person has never been in the US, as in the case of my wife.
