Well my interview is for feb. 20 and I was under the same impression that PCC from US consulate would suffice. But, I called New Delhi today and was told that the PCC from US counts only for the regional passport part. I still need to get a PCC from the local police station.

        GhoshT,

Check PCC page in your P3. In the table they have clearly mentioned that you do need certificate from local authority.

I have yet not sent DS230 Part I and Money order back.

          PCC for US resident Indians

          Hi,

My interview date is on Feb 20th in the Chennai consulate. I sent an email to them asking the same question and they have replied back saying that the PCC issued by the local Indian consulate is sufficient now. Any way it would be impossible to get local police station PCC now from India.

For Bombay, PCC issued by the local Indian consulate is sufficient. You can see on their site. For other consulate one should go to thier site or write a mail. They are responding pretty quick.

Re: PCC - where in the Mumbai consulate web site

INDIAN POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATES SHOULD BE OBTAINED AS FOLLOWS:

-- All Indian IV applicants age 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police certificates from the local passport office. Applicants whose Indian passport was issued within the past six months may present just the passport office police certificate, and need not obtain additional police clearances.
-- Applicants over age 16 whose passports were issued more than six months previous to visa application must also obtain a police clearance from the district police office serving the applicant’s place of residence.
-- Indian passport holders applying for visas outside India should obtain a statement from their local embassy or consulate confirming they have no criminal record.
-- Non-Indian IV applicants residing in India should obtain police certificates from the district police station serving their area of residence.
-- Indian police certificates are not available for foreign (non-Indian) applicants applying outside India.

It clearly says that we can obtain PCC from the embassy. This is the exact except from P3 and also to my email from chennai consulate.

Re: PCC - where in the Mumbai consulate web site

For Bombay go and see this link :
                      usembassy.state.gov/mumba...tml#police

                      here is the exact text:
                      -------------------------------------------
Do I need to get a police certificate for the interview?

If an applicant has only resided in India or the United States, then no police certificate is required from the Indian police or any local police authority in the United States. However, if the applicant has resided abroad since the age of 16 for periods of six months or more, then a police certificate might be required from that country, depending on which country it was. A full list of countries where police certificates are considered to be unavailable is at the National Visa Center web site.
                      ------------------------------------------------

is there is an e-mail address for the new delhi consulate? I've now called twice and have got different answers. Hopefully the person replying to the e-mails would provide a legitimate answer.

The web site has not been updated , the P3 I got in last week from NVC clearly says that current US residents also need to get PCC from local authority. They have printed a table in PCC section of P3.

Unfortunately, local police station in Mumbai refused to give PCC. I do not know what to do.
